ARE YOU OVERWATERING?

WATER CONSERVATION MONTH & TIPS DaytonaBeach.gov/ConservationTips

To ensure a sustainable future, consider these tips: • Check for leaks and install water-efficient fixtures.

April is Water Conservation Month in Florida, highlighting the importance of reducing water use. This year’s theme, Are you overwatering?, emphasizes irrigation evaluations as outdoor watering accounts for over 50% of new home water use. In Daytona Beach, homes with odd-numbered addresses can water on Wednesday and Saturday, while even-numbered homes water on Thursday and Sunday. The average Floridian uses 87 gallons daily—far more than the 2.5 quarts needed for health.

• Choose low-maintenance landscaping that requires less irrigation. • Follow lawn watering restrictions.

The Florida Water Star program promotes water efficiency in new home construction, encouraging the use of water- saving appliances, plumbing and irrigation systems. Additional resources, including conservation tips and home water audits, are available through the St. Johns River Water Management District and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
