CITY MANAGER’S UPDATE
Construction of the new Fire Station No. 1 is progressing steadily at its new location, 420 S. Ridgewood Ave. This modern facility will replace the station’s longtime home at 301 S. Beach Street, which served the community for a century. Designed to improve emergency response times, the new station will also bring administrative personnel under one roof and allow continued operations during severe weather. Key features include an 80-seat community room, which will also serve as the city’s primary emergency operations center and a higher-ground location to reduce the risk of flooding. A major milestone was recently achieved with the placement of all 62 concrete wall pieces. Next, crews will install the second-floor steel, followed by the second-floor slab, roof steel and roof construction. Simultaneously, work will begin on stormwater infrastructure and exterior finishes. The next major milestone is the dry-in phase, expected to be completed by July, ensuring the structure is weather- tight and allowing interior work to begin. The $27 million project, funded in part by a $10 million state grant, remains on schedule for completion by March 2026. FIRE STATION NO. 1 COMPLETES FIRST MAJOR CONSTRUCTION MILESTONE
Stay tuned for more updates as Fire Station No. 1 continues to take shape, reinforcing safety and service for the community!

CELEBRATING 25+ YEARS OF SERVICE: HONORING OUR LONG-TENURED EMPLOYEES
The city has 70 employees who have served for more than 25 years, representing a combined 2,046 years of service. We are honoring these long-serving employees with a campaign on LinkedIn called World Famous Spotlight 25+ Years. Last week, the campaign launched featuring the city’s longest-tenured employee, Earnestine Maddox, a Personnel Officer who began her career with the city in 1982. Starting as an Office Specialist, Earnestine worked her way up to a key role in the Human Resources Department. When asked about her commitment to the city, she shared that it’s driven by “a sense of purpose, challenging work and meaningful relationships with colleagues and the public.” Thank you, Earnestine, for your dedication to our great city! ARE YOU OVERWATERING?
WATER CONSERVATION MONTH & TIPS DaytonaBeach.gov/ConservationTips
To ensure a sustainable future, consider these tips: • Check for leaks and install water-efficient fixtures.
April is Water Conservation Month in Florida, highlighting the importance of reducing water use. This year’s theme, Are you overwatering?, emphasizes irrigation evaluations as outdoor watering accounts for over 50% of new home water use. In Daytona Beach, homes with odd-numbered addresses can water on Wednesday and Saturday, while even-numbered homes water on Thursday and Sunday. The average Floridian uses 87 gallons daily—far more than the 2.5 quarts needed for health.
• Choose low-maintenance landscaping that requires less irrigation. • Follow lawn watering restrictions.
The Florida Water Star program promotes water efficiency in new home construction, encouraging the use of water- saving appliances, plumbing and irrigation systems. Additional resources, including conservation tips and home water audits, are available through the St. Johns River Water Management District and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
