City Manager's Update Sept. 3, 2025

IN THE WORKS

FIRE STATION NO. 1 CONSTRUCTION UPDATE Construction of the new two-story headquarters at 420 S. Ridgewood Ave. is moving forward on schedule and within budget. The 31,000-square-foot facility now has its exterior walls in place and roof completed. Crews are focusing on exterior finishes while beginning interior work, including wall framing and window installation. When completed, the station will serve not only as the Fire Department’s administrative headquarters but also as an Emergency Operations Center during emergencies and a state-of-the-art training hub for first responders. The project is expected to be finished by March 2026.

RECAP

UNDER CONSTRUCTION

ROAD REPAVING RECAP: The City of Daytona Beach continues to make progress in improving local roadways through its annual resurfacing program. During the current fiscal year, 28 lane miles were resurfaced, enhancing safety and driving conditions for motorists. Planning is underway for next year’s program.

BOOKLAND BRIDGE REPAIRS: Demolition of the Bookland Bridge is nearly complete and expected to finish by the end of this week. In the near future, crews will begin resetting the lifted piles before installing the bents and joists. Once those are in place, work will continue with setting the deck boards and handrails.

NEARING COMPLETION

UNDER CONSTRUCTION

CYPRESS PARK PLAYGROUND: Work is progressing to install the new playground and outdoor fitness equipment. Crews have finished leveling the site, and playground installation is expected to take three to four weeks. Once complete, fall zone material will be added. The project remains on schedule for completion by late October.

HALIFAX HARBOR MARINA FISHING PIER: Repairs to the Halifax Harbor Marina fishing pier, 125 Basin St., are in the final stages. The pier was damaged during Hurricane Milton, which destroyed a 50-foot section of the wooden boardwalk and compromised the railing and the fish cleaning station’s water service. Crews have reconstructed the 8-foot-wide boardwalk by replacing damaged piles, railings, joists, deck boards and timber posts. Final tasks include installing a new handrail, fish cleaning station and five channel markers.
