CITY MANAGER’S UPDATE

EXPLORE CITY FACILITIES WITHOUT LEAVING HOME Looking for the perfect space to host a family

reunion, banquet, birthday party, celebration of life or community gathering? The City of Daytona Beach is making it easier than ever to preview its available facilities before reserving them. Thanks to the new technology used by the city’s Audio-Visual team, a 3-D virtual tour of select city-owned facilities can be taken from the comfort of a computer, tablet or smartphone. The city is using Matterport, an advanced 3-D data platform that creates a lifelike digital model of a space. Using a specialized 360-degree camera, Matterport captures high-resolution images and collects precise measurements of a room’s layout. These images and data are then processed into an interactive tour that allows viewers to “walk through” the space online—just as if you were there in person. This technology is widely used in the real estate industry to showcase homes and commercial properties. To date, two city facilities have undergone the tedious process of creating a digital model: the Cherry Cultural & Educational Center and the Peninsula Club.

The virtual tours can be found at www.DaytonaBeach.gov/virtualtours .

By offering immersive, photorealistic tours of our rental spaces, potential facility users can: • Save time: View multiple venues without needing to travel from location to location. • Plan ahead: Get a true feel for the size, layout and amenities before making a reservation. • Feel confident: Make informed decisions about which space best suits your event. From community centers to special event venues, the city’s goal is to make booking your next event as seamless as possible.

IN THE WORKS

FIRE STATION NO. 1 CONSTRUCTION UPDATE Construction of the new two-story headquarters at 420 S. Ridgewood Ave. is moving forward on schedule and within budget. The 31,000-square-foot facility now has its exterior walls in place and roof completed. Crews are focusing on exterior finishes while beginning interior work, including wall framing and window installation. When completed, the station will serve not only as the Fire Department’s administrative headquarters but also as an Emergency Operations Center during emergencies and a state-of-the-art training hub for first responders. The project is expected to be finished by March 2026.

RECAP

UNDER CONSTRUCTION

ROAD REPAVING RECAP: The City of Daytona Beach continues to make progress in improving local roadways through its annual resurfacing program. During the current fiscal year, 28 lane miles were resurfaced, enhancing safety and driving conditions for motorists. Planning is underway for next year’s program.

BOOKLAND BRIDGE REPAIRS: Demolition of the Bookland Bridge is nearly complete and expected to finish by the end of this week. In the near future, crews will begin resetting the lifted piles before installing the bents and joists. Once those are in place, work will continue with setting the deck boards and handrails.

NEARING COMPLETION

UNDER CONSTRUCTION

CYPRESS PARK PLAYGROUND: Work is progressing to install the new playground and outdoor fitness equipment. Crews have finished leveling the site, and playground installation is expected to take three to four weeks. Once complete, fall zone material will be added. The project remains on schedule for completion by late October.

HALIFAX HARBOR MARINA FISHING PIER: Repairs to the Halifax Harbor Marina fishing pier, 125 Basin St., are in the final stages. The pier was damaged during Hurricane Milton, which destroyed a 50-foot section of the wooden boardwalk and compromised the railing and the fish cleaning station’s water service. Crews have reconstructed the 8-foot-wide boardwalk by replacing damaged piles, railings, joists, deck boards and timber posts. Final tasks include installing a new handrail, fish cleaning station and five channel markers.
