EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT For almost 20 years, Vincent Terry has played a major role in making the Parks & Recreation department run smoothly. He oversees everything from city facilities and programs to event sponsorships, and making sure things are safe and well-managed. Terry is all about helping the next generation step into leadership roles and keeping things moving forward. He loves seeing how much the community appreciates the work being done and is passionate about creating great recreational experiences for everyone. Terry’s dedication and heart for the community make him a true standout in the Parks & Recreation family.

VOLUSIA COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY PARTNERS WITH CAMPERS The Volusia County Public Library is partnering with the City of Daytona Beach’s Summer Camp program to bring fun, educational activities directly to campers. This week, the library team visited Sunnyland Recreation Center and the YSG Cultural & Educational Center. Children’s Librarian Darrielle Wasylean and Library Assistant Kayla Feinsod led a game of animal bingo, helping campers build their animal recognition, listening skills and knowledge of colors. The library will make four more stops throughout the summer, continuing to support learning for city youth.

DAYTONA BEACH GYMNASTICS FINISH STRONG AT NATIONALS The Daytona Beach Gymnastics team wrapped up the 2025 competitive season at AAU Nationals in Fort Lauderdale. Fifteen athletes across Levels 2, 3, Xcel Silver, Gold and Platinum competed on Vault, Bars, Beam, Floor and in the All-Around. The team earned 42 scores of 9.0 or higher, 18 event placements in the top three, two 3rd place All Around titles and two 1st place All Around Champion titles. The season ends with a team pool party and preparations already underway for a strong summer focused on skill, strength and flexibility. Two athletes on the team qualified for the AAU Junior Olympic Games! Sophia Latji earned an impressive beam score of 9.65, while Deira Rivas followed closely with a score of 9.575, both placing in the top eight to secure their qualification at the national event. Congratulations to Sophia and Deira on this outstanding achievement.
