DAYTONA STADIUM GEARS UP FOR FOOTBALL SEASON
If you’re looking to stay active, learn a new sport or improve your game, the Florida Tennis Center is the perfect place to serve up some fun this year. Located at 1 Deuce Court, this premier facility features 24 clay hydro- courts, 20 of which are lit for evening play, along with a full-service pro shop and certified professional staff. The center offers programs for both adults and youth, including lessons, leagues, tournaments and daily court rentals. Whether you’re a beginner picking up a racquet for the first time or an experienced player looking for competitive matches, there’s something for every skill level. Players from around the world visit the Florida Tennis Center, with ages ranging from young beginners to seasoned athletes in their 80s. Football season is right around the corner, and Daytona Stadium is getting game-day ready. The city’s maintenance team has been working hard preparing the facility for fans of Mainland High School, Seabreeze High School and Bethune-Cookman University. Crews have been pressure washing the stadium from top to bottom to ensure clean, comfortable seating areas for everyone. Last week, they prepped the common areas and concessions, making sure everything will be ready for the first kickoff of the season. With these preparations underway, Daytona Stadium is set to welcome athletes, fans and the community for another exciting year of football. COMMUNITY CENTERS NEW HOURS The city’s community centers are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, offering a wide variety of programs for all ages. The only exception is the Sunnyland Community Center, which opens during rentals only.

LINE DANCING NEW LOCATION Line dancing classes have moved from the Dickerson Community Center to the Cherry Cultural & Educational Center, at 925 George W. Engram Blvd. The only exception is the popular Slide and Shuffle class, which will continue to be held at Dickerson Community Center on the fourth Friday of each month. Classes are open to all ages and experience levels: • Senior Classes: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 3 to 4 p.m. – $2 • Regular Classes: Monday and Wednesday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. – $2 • Slide and Shuffle: Fourth Friday of each month at Dickerson Community Center, 6 to 9 p.m. – $5 • Men’s Line Dancing: Thursdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. – $2 For more information, call (386) 671-5540. ARTISAN MARKET COMING THIS FALL A new monthly Artisan Market is launching next month at the YSG Cultural & Educational Center. Set in the center’s courtyard, the market will showcase a variety of homemade, homegrown and handcrafted items, offering something special for everyone. The first market will be held on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1000 Vine St. Residents and visitors are invited to come out, enjoy the community atmosphere and discover unique finds while supporting local talent. Shoppers can look forward to fresh produce, baked treats, plants and flowers, handmade crafts, art and accessories. The Artisan Market is an initiative of Zone 5 City Commissioner Dannette Henry. MIDTOWN SUNDAYZ EXTENDS THROUGH THE YEAR Great news, Midtown Sundayz is being extended through the rest of the year. This community event takes place on the second Sunday of each month from 3 to 8 p.m. at Daisy Stocking Park, 555 Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Blvd. Midtown Sundayz brings together residents and visitors for an afternoon of DJ entertainment, delicious food available for purchase, board games and activities for all ages. The park transforms into a space full of great vibes, community spirit and plenty of fun. Be sure to bring your lawn chairs, friends and dancing shoes. LENOX PARK DOG PARK IMPROVEMENTS The Lenox Park dog park is getting an upgrade to create a better play space for our four-legged friends. The entire fenced-in area has been re-sodded with new hybrid grass, giving the park a healthier and more durable surface. Crews have removed the old sod and completed the installation of the new turf. The final step will be repairing the fencing before reopening. The park is expected to be ready for dogs and their owners to enjoy again by the end of August, offering a cleaner, safer and more enjoyable experience for all.
