hosted the Summer Youth Aviation STEM Camp Graduation Ceremony. Under the leadership of Danny Fuqua, more than 20 students spent their summer reaching for the skies through a unique hands- on learning experience. Throughout the program, participants explored aviation fundamentals, practiced flying airplanes and honed their navigation skills using advanced flight simulators. Adding to the excitement, students had the opportunity to learn directly from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University graduates, gaining insight and inspiration from professionals in the field. CITY SWIM TEAM SHINES IN RECENT MEETS
The city’s swim team made a splash last month, demonstrating skill and determination in two recreational swim meets that showcased skill and determination. At the Deltona YMCA, nine swimmers represented the city during the meet. They swam freestyle and backstroke events, with two swimmers taking on the butterfly. The team displayed great effort and energy throughout the day, making the city proud. In another meet, special congratulations goes to Eduardo Valdez and Sara Smith for competing in their first swim meet. Charlee McIntosh, Khloe Hackney and Donna Smith swam the 25-yard butterfly, while Janny Arrieta took on the 50-yard breaststroke for the first time. Peyton Foggatt competed in both the 25-yard freestyle and backstroke, and Fabiana Olivieros challenged herself with the 50-yard freestyle and backstroke. All swimmers also participated in team relay events, with the nine & under group racing in the 100-yard freestyle relay and the 10 & older group competing in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

The Beach & Pool Safety Program wrapped up an exciting three days of hands-on learning and adventure for our swim league students. This program gives youth the chance to develop important aquatic skills while connecting with our local environment and was coordinated by Coach Leonard Myers. Participants took part in beach safety activities at Breakers, received instruction from the Volusia County Beach Patrol and enjoyed fun beach activities designed to build confidence and awareness in the water. The program also included a visit to the Daytona Aquarium & Rainforest Adventure, where students got to experience the premiere of the rainforest exhibit.

COMPUTER CLASS STARTS BACK UP Free computer classes kicked off this week, offering residents the chance to build and sharpen their digital skills. The program runs through Dec. 15 and is available at four community centers: YSG Cultural & Educational Center, Cherry Cultural & Educational Center, Dickerson Community Center and Schnebly Recreation Center. Sessions are held Monday through Friday at various times to fit a variety of schedules, making it easy for participants to find a class that works for them. NEW POLE & BRISK WALKING CLASS NOW OFFERED FOR RESIDENTS Residents looking for a fun and effective way to stay active now have a new option at the Dickerson Community Center. The Parks & Recreation department is introducing Pole Walking and Brisk Walking classes, held Monday through Friday from 9 to 9:30 a.m. These classes are designed to help participants build endurance, strengthen muscles and enhance mental well- being. Whether you are an experienced fitness enthusiast or just starting your wellness journey, these sessions offer a low-impact, accessible workout that can be tailored to different fitness levels. Classes take place indoors at the Dickerson Community Center, 308 S. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., providing a safe and comfortable environment for participants year-round. SPANISH CLASSES THRIVING AT SCHNEBLY RECREATION CENTER Spanish classes at the Schnebly Recreation Center are well underway, giving residents the opportunity to strengthen their language skills in a supportive and engaging environment. With 27 students currently enrolled, the program continues to grow in popularity. Over the course of five months, participants work on the four essential language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Many students are already making great progress, developing the ability to communicate confidently in both social and professional settings. In today’s interconnected world, learning Spanish not only broadens cultural understanding but can also lead to new career opportunities and increased earning potential. Be on the lookout when new classes begin! AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM RETURNS TO SCHNEBLY RECREATION CENTER School is almost back in session, and so is the popular after-school program at the Schnebly Recreation Center, 1101 N. Atlantic Ave. Registration is now open for a program filled with homework help, games, arts and crafts and plenty of activities to keep youth active. Running Monday through Friday from Aug. 11 to May 28, the program is open to students in grades K through 8 and operates from school dismissal until 5:30 p.m. It’s the perfect place for students to
