Born and raised in Daytona Beach, Keith Willis has been a cornerstone of the community for decades. A proud graduate of Seabreeze High School (Class of 1987), Willis began his career at the City of Daytona Beach Leisure Services department at just 14 years old, while still playing basketball. Over the years, he climbed the ranks from summer camp counselor to his current position as Director of Parks & Recreation. Willis’ leadership extends far beyond the office. Known affectionately as “Coach Keith,” he has made a lasting impact as a coach in the city’s Youth Basketball League. His passion for sports and mentorship has shaped the lives of many young people, offering guidance in education, employment, relationship building and family planning. His open-door policy for mentorship is a testament to his commitment to nurturing the next generation of leaders.
Under Willis’ leadership, the Parks & Recreation Department has become synonymous with excellence, offering top-quality recreational programs for all ages. From year-round sports leagues and activities to special events, the department provides a diverse range of opportunities for children, adults, families and seniors. The department’s facilities foster physical, social and mental wellness for the citizens of Daytona Beach, ensuring there is something for everyone. At the heart of it all is the belief that Parks & Recreation is where it all starts—creating a foundation for healthy, engaged communities.

JACKIE ROBINSON BALLPARK
The Daytona City Island Ballpark opened June 4, 1914. During the 1920s, a grandstand with a press box was built behind home plate to replace the original wood bleachers and two additional covered sections of grandstands were added along the first base line, along with a viewing area reserved for blacks. An uncovered bleacher along the third base line was also built at this time. The ballpark, currently home to the Daytona Tortugas (Cincinnati Reds’ farm team) of the Florida State League, was renamed Jackie Robinson Memorial Ballpark in
1990. That year, a commemorative bronze statue of Robinson by Montreal sculptor Jules LaSalle was dedicated. The statue is located near the ballpark’s entrance. In November 1998, Jackie Robinson Ballpark was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
